Madison Sourdough

In a space the size of a large living room and on a busy arterial roadway, Saiki Design crafted an elegant, cost effective and flexible outdoor patio space that is a reflection of the artisan quality of the breads and pastries produced inside the front doors to this community gem.

Madison, Wisconsin

The culinary artists at Madison Sourdough commissioned Saiki Design to re-invent the crumbling concrete patio from the site’s industrial past into a lively, arts-centered outdoor patio directly adjacent their cafe and bakery on Madison’s near East Side.

The project challenged the design team to incorporate a long list of client desires into approximately 1,000square feet of usable space, integrating them physically and aesthetically to form a functional outdoor retreat. Each design decision was weighed against a modest construction budget and materials selection and the eclectic design solutions reflected the resolution of so many challenges. The space quickly became an extension of Madison Sourdough and the larger Williamson Street neighborhood. The patio is open day and night and has continued to increase business and draw new patrons to meet and dine in the heart of the Williamson Street Neighborhood.
